I use a soundblaster X-Fi Audio extreme with the creative IO module and a spif cable to connect to my Yamaha RC-V361 receiver. I find that the receiver can't handle an an input level of more than 48 Mhz. My monitor (24" HDCP compliant) is driven through DVI, my televison goes through s-video.
Still, I think the bottom line is the vlc media player at one end and the Klipsch Forte II's and Klipsch KG 2.2v center channel. I guess good speakers covers up a multitude of sins. 😀
