Threshold Fet 10 PC Power Supply

I got a Threshold FET-10 PC phono amp recently but the power supply not functioning at all. The tranny missing from the PCB, the trace had been cut at several locations and piggybacked wires all over the pcb. I tested the phono amp with a bipolar 12vdc power supply with everything connected. Surprisingly music played and sounds good too.

Anyone knows the current draw from the Fet-10 PC? I want to build a new power supply but the estate of the original box only 1.5" tall, small PCB mount transformer may be the only way to get inside this thin box. What would be a properly VA rating transformer to power this phono amp?

Any information are appreciate.

Sidney

The original transformer is 18v + 18v and rated at 6VA. It uses a bridge made out of 1n4004 diodes and uses 2100uf 35v capacitors for the +24v and -24v outputs. If you decide to build a new external supply, I'd go with a much bigger VA transformer, soft recovery diodes, and bigger supply caps. My experience is that this is a big benefit for the 10hl line stage.

If the original transformer is indeed 2 x 18V rated 6VA total, I myself would go apesh1t with physical inductors AND ferrite beads AND CRC snubbers AND an Rcore trafo replacement rated 2 x 24V or 2 x 30V, plus mucho resistor capacitor smoothing / HF filtering / embarrassing overkill. But hey that's just me.

Thank you for the information. The current draw form the Fet10 PC roughly around 80mA. The original transformer was missing and the height of the enclosure 1.5" only that makes not easy to mount a higher VA/voltage rating transformer.

What is the correct supply voltage for this Fet10 PC phono amp? There is a sticker claim 15 V power supply that at the bottom of the enclosure. I might consider to make an enclosure to accommodate the new power supply if the phono really takes 24V.

The 'original' small one, used for both FET9, FET10/HL and FET10/PC is ±24V, 250mA. I don't know the specs on the later models.
