Thermal coupling SMD's, in the abscence of dual devices

What sort of techniques can one use to thermally couple separate SMD devices?

Evidently it would be most convenient if the devices collectors were connected, but quite often this isn't the case.

Any hints?

Some sort of potting compound is probably your best bet.

If any of the pins are on the same net, place comps as near together as possible and use the copper. Sharing a mounted side GND copper pour is a good way.
