A friend just made me aware of this turntable project. Quite clever as you will see, but not I think a particularly high performance solution..Great conversation piece of that there's probably little doubt.

Long time ago there was tangential turntable, perhaps by Technics, which had cartridge from both sides of the record, no need to flip record to hear other side.

How do you cue to a particular track?
I think they detect inter-track spaces via infra-red. I wondered about the record turning ccw until I realized they play it from the bottom....

This appears to be the case since in the demonstration video they demonstrate skipping from one track to another.
The control "joystick" seems rather clever, but I wonder how intuitive the average user is going to find it.
