I am searching for a driver combination (or full-range driver, if possible) that can outperform the Klipsch Promedia satellite while keeping a similar size. It should ideally have a minimal or no crossover. And of course, it will need to be shielded.
Thank you in advance.
Thank you in advance.
jx92s or tangband. hope you wont hook them up to the klipsch p.o.s. amplifier. i owned one and upgraded to jx92s and gainclone.

beat (size wise at least)
I can't comment on the sound as I've never heard those klipcsh ones, mine don't have much bass, but the mid to high is great for how small they are.
with a sub they really fill out......

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

i'd expand this to include the W4 TB driver MarkMck has modified.

RAW claims that it can be compared with the Fostex 103 or Jordan JX92 both of which i hear are very good to begin with.

This is a thread I will follow closely!
Same dilemma here: need to build speakers that sound good, can be used in HT, have to be small and good looking,... and affordable.
I was thinking about the HATT mkIII, but my wiff still believes they are huge 😕

my family is looking for a solution to this problem (WAF).
On solution could be for all the men to live together and all the women to live together. So my Brother in law and father in law (he is a gourmet so that will take care of the food issue) will move in with me and my wife and son will move in with her mom.
Just kidding.
Besides if WAF is Bose's forte. Now even B&W (VM1), KEF (KHT) etc... are offering WAF compatibel systems.

TS, Alfire, What size limitations are prescribed, i.e. How big is your WAF requirement?
In another topic I listed a small cheap DIY minimonitor.
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36952
It is sufficient for my casual office listening but I was not sure until I tried. Therefore the cabinet is calculated to fit also with a Monacor SPH100KEP and either a Monacor DT28 tweeter or a Seas KTN25. (respective 55mm square or 48mm round in size)
The size of the cabinet is 11,8 cm wide, 20 cm high and 20 cm deep.
It would be advantagous to increase the size of the BR ports in case of the stronger Monacor SPH100KEP. The stay within the green range in winisd but it is towards the edge. Rearported is also a solution.
Note that the efficiency is only 85 db for both situations and that power limitations (20Wrms visaton and 30Wrms Monacor) will also limit SPL
If that's to large then you'l have serious WAF problem.

Rainer,
I know I have a serieus WAF problem
She believes speakers have to be the size of eg the KEF eggs, or bose cubes, or all those others cheap not good sounding plastic mettalic looks things...
Your GV1 mod is what I really want(ed). Now I have come to the smaller HATT mkIII. But it still is to big for her.
May be I should just build sth, and put it there and never let her touch those speakers! Nagging will go away after a while - I hope 😉

what i have found is that women dont like square boxes. u'll be surprised how a big they'll adjust to if the box has curves.
many years ago Focal had a 6/7" 2 way called the Egg. wonder if those enclosures are still available.
also i am given to understand that if one reduces the standing waves (which curved boxes do) one can actually make the driver think it is in a bigger box than it actually is. this along with aperiodic loading can reduce you box size to about 5 liters for a driver like teh FE103 (fostex) or the 4" TB modified by MarkMck.
Jordan's JX92 however will require a bigger box than that (above 10 liters).
there are 2 advantages to fullranges in this size (3-4"). small box. & no XO. the XO and tweeter would take up precious little cc no matter how small they are. maybe a tweeter like the D26NC (Vifa) can be used to fill in the upper registers but from what I hear in most cases (W3 871, FE103, etc..) this is not really required.
now the issue comes with sensitivity. I prefer a soeaker with figures around 90db so I can get by with a small 20W valve (EL84) amp. given that you have to accomodate BSC (more prominent in the kinda boxes used by Gallo and co) and driver sensittivity around 86-88db at best real world sensitivity will not exceed 83-85db. With a 20W amp (assuming Xmax is not a factor) we are talking a max SPL of about 96-98db at 1m. At 2m+ where most of listen these figures will drop to about 90-92db. AND THESE ARE MAX SPL FIGURES!

Look at the roundsound.com site to see some really good small speakers. They must be heard to be believed.

In 5 liters i can build a 5,25" and, yeah it has curved sides too, apart from an incredible good sound and rave reviews on the DIY contest.
My wife liked em more than my current setup (modified GV1) soundwise that is. Although I don't now what happens to a womans ears when she likes the looks.
But don't try this at home

Wow, what a surge of responses! No, I won't be using the Klipsch amp...any suggestions? Maybe a pure Class A?
Hybrid fourdoor, I'm interested in your round speakers; how did you make them? And what about those cool-looking flat wires?
Thanks to all. I will be looking over your suggestions carefully.🙂
