The return of Technics

Yeah, the website is kinda bleh, it tries way, way too hard.

The direct drive turntables would be cool, I've still got one that I keep meaning to make a new plinth for and get a tonearm, but that's a back-burner project.

Oh, man, I used to have an RS-M88 casette deck that was probably the finest constructed casette deck I'd ever seen, it'd be cool to see a new media player or blu ray player made with the same attention to construction quality.

I like that the brand "Technics" will be back. For me Technics is somehow rooted in my brain since childhood.

I have (among other Technics gear) two SE-A3 and a SU-A4 that I bought several years back as restoration objects. I really must bring them new life some day.

It would be a nice item to bring back. And their original direct drive tables. And the linear tracking tables. And the EPA-500 arm. And the EPC100C4/205C3 cartridges. And...

The web design does not leave me with much optimism, though.

They've already brought the 1200 back twice.
The thing is that they are almost impossible to kill. The only non-repairable fault that can occur is the main bearing failing but I've only ever seen two cases of that happening and that was after 20 years+ of heavy abuse by hamfisted DJs (i've seen DJs scratching while doing a handstand on the platterwithout breaking anything). Friends of mine had theirs since the late '80s without any problems and most of them are DJs themselves.
One of the safest s/h HiFi buys possible and there must be hundreds of thousands out there. Just make sure it comes with its original rubber mat which is an essential part of the overall damping system.

Somehow I'll doubt they will ever bring back their top-of-the-range SP10/SL1000 back as domestic use was not really ever their main market but the SL1200 is only one step below.

It worked fine for me, but struck me as far too complex to navigate.

I looked at the new products they plan to offer. Looked pretty much like what everyone else is offering. No sign of any turntables or cartridges either, unless I missed something.

This site does not appear targeted at the U.S. market, perhaps there is a separate one for the U.S.

Lots of chatter about their direct drive tables and hugh-jass SS amps, but has anyone have experience with some of their more unorthodox speaker systems, or note that their first power amp (1966) was an OTL pentode ?

Agreed , the website is too artsy for its own good, and certainly not intuitively navigable, but the product engineering could be interesting to watch.
