I just bought a Technics SP 10 - Mk I. I know this isn't the same caliber as the Mk II or Mk III but I assume it's not a complete dud. There certainly is a lot of good information about the Mk II and Mk III, but I can't find much about the Mk I. I've restored three Mk IIIs and am reasonably familiar with them.
Any highlights/suggestions of what I should look for, or upgrade on this table will be most appreciated. Any advantage in moving the power supply to an outboard enclosure? (assuming that is even possible - I haven't looked yet).
Any thoughts on how its performance compares to the Mk II would be of interest.
Many thanks.

Quartz Controlled Vs. Servo Controlled - Meaning?- Vinyl Engine
MK1-servo controlled --MK11 quartz locked .
MK1-servo controlled --MK11 quartz locked .
Excellent information in the link. I did know that the Mk I used a servo and not quartz lock.
What would also be helpful would be any specific recommendations to make this table perform as well as possible. I plan to replace the electrolytic caps and adjust as per the service manual. Are there any other updates I should plan to perform?

You are doing the right thing changing all the capacitors as that is recommended on the later models .
As there was a circuit change from the MK11 onwards it would not be easy to modify the MK1 to a later model and even with 3 search engines I cant find any mods relating to the MK1 .
You could check if the servo is running correctly as there is plenty of talk on DIY Audio about servos .
The price of the deck in its day was several times a Linn Sondek and even now it does not sell cheap on the web.

Recap, change thrust bearing if you can, oil bearing, enjoy. Servo may not be as accurate, but will still sounds great.
The biggest trick with these tables is getting the table+arm+plinth weighing at least 20kg. There is a certain magic to high-mass and it’s not subtle.
