So, I had to do these;
After I put the Aucharm P610 Diatonereplica alnicos in my DBR, the "Hommage to Kondo-san", I had the ferrites laying around. An idea that lingered, as an in between project, was to try this. Something that just popped up in my head, but obviously losely inspired by, amongst others, Onur´s Singular and PMS´s ATL. And it´s obviously also a vented box (double?)of sorts. I haven´t put much ambition or prestige into them, but it was something I wanted to try. And, it worked. Of course, using the same driver it´s not like night and day, but these are more direct, more in your face. The bass is louder than in the DBR but maybe not as extended. All in all, the words that come to mind is a modern sound, somewhat conventional, like studiomonitors or multiway floorstanders. I will proberbly give them to my oldest son. I´m gonna build a DeVore Orangutan 96 lookalike for my youngest... And now on to my next dipole project....

nice builds, i'd love to compare them in reality.
i have L.Cao 6.5" drivers and i chose to build a traditional big BR box for them http://usr.audioasylum.com/images/1/10818/P610-cabinet.jpg , they are derivatives of p610 so it should work.
i'm almost finished but i can't stop the urge to make them aperiodic, not BR. i'm not after strong bass so i'll play with the port / vent for a while while listening. i also want to use minimal damping and more diffusing (hanged thin wooden strips, central brace)

I recognize that enclosure, one of the classic Diatone enclosures. I was (losely) inspired by Kondo-sans version ( can´t seem to find a working link) when I did these; http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/full-range/241170-diatone-dbr-hommage-kondo-san.html The aperiodic/bassreflex question can be solved with foam inserts, but I guess that is what you are doing presently. Are you using any filter for the L Cao? There not supposed to be as linear as the Diatones, but constructionwise there very alike...
i know your inspiration source, that double bass reflex. it should be quite effective from what i've read.
i don't use the filter, i guess its more critical in 8inch version, these 6.5 on open baffle sounded balanced, with defined and nicely integrated highs (well, point source +no whizzer) but not shouty.
i'll report results when finished.

I bought a pair of Aucharm 'Diatones' with the standard (non-alnico) magnets. I built a pair of cabinets using IKEA 8mm ply storage boxes (2 per speaker). I used extensive bracing - lots of wedged and glued bamboo canes joining opposing panels, and lined the inside with acoustic foam. The cabinets are light but very dead with the knuckle test.
From memory the cabinets are around 100L with approx 40Hz downward firing port (=hole).
The speakers were nice but I felt that the top end was a bit rolled off and ragged, so I ended up adding a pair of B&G Neo3 tweeters. I built an active LR4 crossover using 3x OPA2134 per channel. I had to attenuate the tweeters by 3-4dB to get a good blend.

I bought the newest Alnicos (the round model ) Fitted them in Orgue type bigger cabinet . Allthough there no problem with response and they sound quite dynamic ,their midband sound muddy or littlebit "butter" sound ,not clear ?? For comparison I have Voxative BLH speakers so no problem with amplification ,they sound very good . Is there something problem with leather surrounds maybe ? Do the problem disapear in long "Burn in" time . Thanks

I have been a bit reluctant about these new cast frame drivers. They don´t seem to be quite as linear as the original ones. I have not experienced any muddyness in mine, neither ferrite nor alnicos. Don´t think the leather is the problem. See what burn-in does ( and how much ) and let us all know, if you feel like it. Sorry for not really having an answer for you.
I never heard the Diaton 610 but imagine they would sound very good based on their mythology. The closest driver I have to the Diatone is the Radio Shack 1354 (they look similar to me but may be completely different). The 1345 sound great in simple ported boxes from top to bottom. I'd love to compare the two just to satisfy my curiosity.
Excellent looking speakers bunkhokum.

Sound gets littlebit better after burn-in .Im still suspicious how leather surround damp certain frequenzy ? I have chance to hear orginal Diatone 610mb in original orgue cabinet and it doesnt have never model problems at all ,surround is on same level as cone itself and sound is much wider allthough not so dynamic and contolled as new chinese version.

L. Cao F6 ferrite model plays nicely in the Karlsonator 6 prototype

Hi Freddi
Found here.
L.Cao Audio Laocao 6.5 inches cobalt magnetic version full frequency speaker FA6zwwvunsorpn from English Agent:BuyChina.com
Any problem with almost zero T/S specs. Is the price fair?
TIA
hi JC
OH - I see you're looking at the AlNiCo version - I would not pay that premium without first being able to hear. It may be great
- the eight inch L-Cao alnico was supposed to have less distortion than the ferrite version.
HERE's the specs for the Alnico version
http://www.ebay.com/itm/L-Cao-6-5-i...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
my ferrite motor F6 came from Anitaydavid/DavidLouis - I guess the price was fair @ ~$85USD each shipped compared to Fostex and Audio Nirvana - the motor isn't "big" but sensitivity is 3-4dB higher than my Eminence Delta Pro 8A which is rated 97.8dB.
out of the box, F6's qts & fs like many speakers runs somewhat higher than published - I didn't bother to check after some run time. Its a very nice speaker with exceptional on-axis high frequency extension. (for a non whizzer cone speaker of this diameter)

Hi freddi
Thanks
I think L.Cao 6.5 is out of production, so that explain such high price.
How to quick assure if a driver is adequate for a Knator 6 just checking T/S whitout sim. High or low Qts?
I´m also considering AN 6.5 and hungarian Sonido SFR175 ferrites.

subjectively, F6 with qts around 0.7, played musically in the Karlsonator 6 size cabinet with nice sound on cello, and even bowed bass viola. My de-whizzered FE164 sounded leaner and had greater subjective attack on Joe Flick's slapped upright bass. XRK971 can simulate the Karlslonator pretty well with akabak and make suggestions of altering dimensions for specific drivers.
fwiw I thought my stamped frame Super8 sounded "darker" in tone than my FE206EN plus the Nirvana has stiffened over a few years with fs and qts raising. I don't know if the Nirvana 6.5 shares the same tone as my 8 or not.
I would guess 0.35-0.6 qts to be workable in the Karlsonator 6 as drawn and there's probably some room for tuning system Q via adjustments of damping material position and amounts.

Hi
These are supposed to be similar to the F6
Aucharm leder Version diatone p 610fb 6.5" breitbandlautsprecher papiermembran wolle umgeben 8 Ohm 25w in Audio Labs High Quality 4'' Full Range Speaker Pair Mixed White Paper Cone Aluminum Bullet 4/8ohm 15W ShieldedUSD 79.80/ aus Akustische
Not sure how well they would work in Karlsonator but the price seems reasonable.

I bought a pair of Aucharm 3" with the same "suede" looking surround.
My advice: Stay away!
The surrounds are not glued well, and there's some wrinkles in the fabric.
It also has the most distorsion I've heard in a driver... completely unusable.
Stay with rubber surrounds if you want to buy an Aucharm.
