Heya guys, im sure by now you all have realised there is a forum move going on, ( thank you guys for doing a great job and co-operating), please excuse the moving/sorting for the time being 🙂 .
As myself and other Modderators sort through the threads, we will also be bumping a few threads up here and there as some of these older threads contain alot of information that alot of you guys have missed, (mainly the new guys 🙂 ). Please excuse the new post function on the older threads, as they may have been bumped 😉 .
Things we would like to keep down here other then the obvious is the tidyness of things. This is mainly threads staying on topic, and the thread topic's being placed into the correct forum.
For a reference, we would like the following articles placed under the following:
General Video:
Anything related to video other then lcd projectors, things like VGA boxes, cables, tv's, video players, dvd players, video mixers, cam corders ect.
LCD Video Projectors:
Your projects from start to finnish, projection screens, parts sourcing, ( though these can go under the apropiate forum), things for sale, (one off private sales, sorry no commercial advertising allowed, once again these can go under the apropiate forum), and basically anything else related to video projectors excluding the other forum topics. This forum isnt just about Diy Video Projectors but rather both pro and diy, lets see the best of both worlds 🙂.
LCD:
Anything to do with LCD's, both panels and monitors, aswell as technical articles.
Lighting and OHP:
In here we place our light engine designs, any OHP info aswell as light sources ect.
Optics:
In here we place anything to do with optics, this can range from condensers to projection lenses, filters, polarisers, mirrors ect.
Well guys thats about it, Besure to also check out the new "Audio vendor's Bazzar" and the "Audio "sections of DiyAudio, afteral a big screen is no good without the big sound!
I hope you like the new forums, any comments are welcome 😉 .
Keep up the great work!

Hey Trev,
Haven't talked to you in a long time. In any case, I don't know if it's too late, but I think it would be great if you had a category called "Show off you project" or something to that extent for FINISHED projects only. I've found that the forums that do this great. It also helps with not having 100's of permanent thread.

Heya buddy, long time no see 🙂.
Regarding pernament threads, they are pernament for a reason, they contain a wealth of information. If i wer to go and remove the pernament threads totally, who would search, to the search engines full extent?
Not too manny search that much so i think it is probally wise to leave them the way it is 😉. I have cut a few back and moved them around, ill take another look at things and see what i can do.
Regarding the projects forum, that may happen. Eventually if people dont stop making threads in the wrong forum, (rather then making a thread in the right forum), this forum will be closed and kept as a data bank.

How about a Meta-FAQ
One excellent way to manage threads that deserve a "permanent" status (without having tons of permanent threads) is to create a "meta-FAQ". The meta-FAQ is not a FAQ, but rather a logically structured list of topics with links to the threads that do an excellent job of covering the associated topic.
The meta-FAQ thread then becomes a permanent, "read this first" kind of thing.
This does require periodic maintenance, and theoretically, once a thread is linked in the meta-FAQ, it should probably be "cleaned up" and shortened as much as possible. (Nobody likes to sift through 2700 posts to glean 20 pearls of wisdom.) Some sites will leave the original thread intact and create a duplicate (whose topic begins with "Meta-FAQ:" for search purposes) which then gets streamlined.
A meta-FAQ should be accompanied by a "Meta-FAQ suggestions" thread (also sticky) that people can use to suggest additonal topics/linked threads.
An example of a meta-FAQ can be seen here: http://archive.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=31225 but it had a couple of fatal problems- (1) AVS archives its posts without globally updating links and (2) This particular meta-FAQ was maintained by a single individual, which proved to be far too much of a burden, so it fell into disuse.
