thanks to these fine gents for making available for me to purchase, an S1 and an S2 tda1541a chip! 🙂
I was finally able to install my socket yesterday but due to an amp mishap I really couldn't evaluate either one until today once I swapped in an old sony ss amp, anyways they sound different but I like them both!! 😎

hi sumotan, yes maybe not the true greatness but it's a start for me 🙂
yes cerafine, the caps were in it when I bought it and I believe all CD880 used the same ones from the factory

That's a good thought Bolly. The first time that I ever heard the
TDA was also an 880 cdp. What stayed in my mind all these years
was the very good bass that it had but was a little slow & muddy
when complex music was played. Nonetheless had never heard
bass that good since from digital source

Sumotan, you are right about bass, it's really strong with the s2 so far. I'm not using my tube amps so I need to get used to the sound of my Sony ta-f470 as I've never played it on my corals... have only just tried the s1 to make sure it works but will have extended listening to it soon... of course I'll have to swap the chips back and forth again once I sort out my problem electrohome mono block
