I'd like to say a big thankyou to everyone in the Forum who has enlightened me.
I know so much more than when I started my project. So much so that I now realise just how much I DON"T KNOW!!
Not wanting to spend a lot of money on a dud, I started with a kit from www.theloudspeakerkit.com then set about modifying it using feedback and information from the forum. This included flush mounting the drivers, heavily bracing the cabinets and adding high density rubber damping in key areas. I also rounded the front edges of the cabinet
I also re-wired the internals using cat-5 cables . The plynths are heavy duty jobs, made from PDF and concrete!
The finish is african Bubinga Veneer (Excuse my spelling) in a high gloss finish. Having a 2 year old daughter I also had to add a detachable grill.
Next project -The sub that killed Elvis!

What nice Loudspeakers!
Real Beauties, mike 🙂
You build loudspeakers anyone would want,
even if they did not make a sound.
But I'm sure they perform well also.

Redeye
They're 150 Watt Vifa Drivers
I used to have some mid-range Pioneer Bookshelf speakers, and the difference is enormous, with the bass going down a lot lower, but not becoming too boomy (there is a tuned port in the bottom rear of the cabinets).
Sensitivity is about the same as my previous speakers, but overall the sound could be described as a lot more "natural" rather than sounding a bit like it's coming out of a box.
