I haven't posted here for a while, but I wanted
to drop by and say thanks for all of the help
I received when I asked about bulding nearfield
monitors here a few months ago. I got a large
number of responses to my initial thread, which
really helped me to define what my design
criteria should be. In addition, I found lots
of other great threads which contained great
information and links on crossover design, which
proved to be absolutely essential for the
success of my project.
It took me a while to absorb all of the
information, and learn how to do all of the
electronic testing on my drivers, but it was
very worth while. I spent most of last weekend
tweaking the crossover in my prototype cabinet,
in order to get the perfect intersection between
the woofer and tweeter with no holes or over-
lapping of frequencies in the reponse. Having
a good pair of reference headphones to compare
against was very helpful to get the balance just
right.
I now have a finished protoype cabinet which
is providing me with the sound I had envisioned.
Finally I'm ready to move onto building a pair
of finished cabinets. The forum has given me
some other ideas that I might want to explore
further as well, so I'll keep my intial
prototyping cabinet around to try out some
experiments with those Tang Band drivers, and
passive biamplification.
Thanks again,
Art Douglas.

What nearfields.
Hi Art,
This Forum is very helpful....... most of the time. Humour takes over sometimes...........and the beer talks other times !
Good to know that you finished your nearfields. What drivers did you use eventually (Tang band?). What's the crossover like ? How about some pictures. AND what did it sound like .....with what kind of music / amp etc.
Maybe you should tell us , we'd like to know.
Have fun.
Cheers.
