I'm getting ready to build a couple of TH, and wondering about the effect of increasing cabinet width? I've built numerous FH cabs, and extra width to a degree will add some LF extension. But I don't know the effect of tuning with the TH driver. Specifically I want to increase from 20" to 24" to better match with tops.
Thanks,

Basically you'll be increasing the CSA from throat to mouth if you do that, which could increase efficiency and at the same time introduce a large dip in the response. Many DIY TH designs are compromised in some manner to fit a specific volume or shape, so if you plan on increasing the volume, it may be beneficial to redo the actual fold within that volume to take the best advantage of the increase. Which design are you considering?

Thanks for reply. I want to build Dag's 40hz TH, as I already have a couple of LAB15's. He has 20" as outer width. Silly I know, but the tops I'm building are 23.5" wide and I'd like the sub the same.

DAG's 40 Hz TH? I'm not familiar with that design. Do you have a link to a page where it's discussed? If there's a Hornresp sim, even better.
As you use a different driver and a different cabinet I would redo the simulation. It's not that much work if you follow a tutorial. You can keep the current folding scheme but might have to slightly change some dimensions.

Hi Mark,
The Width feature in the Hornresp Loudspeaker Wizard enables you to see the effect of changing the width, in real time. See the Help file for details - use the Find tool to search for the keywords: width dimension.
Kind regards,
David
