Is it possible to use a 120 volt 60hz Technics SP10(early two speed model) on 240 volts 50hz if I use a step down transformer.
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
you sure the power supply can't be set to 240V ?
🙂 sreten.
power supply
The original SP10 has an on board power supply not a SH-10E that the MK11 uses. I will check to see if it can be changed, but I do not think it can. Thank you for your response all the same.

Well if i can't be set to 240V then :

should do the job, they've also got the price wrong,
I wonder if they'll let you order it, should be £29.99.

Not with an SP10. It's a direct drive that references its speed to an internal crystal, not the mains.
"In 1970 National Panasonic (Technics) had introduced the SP10 direct drive turntable. It was a single unit with no seperate power supply. Its speed was regulated by reading the minute fluctuations of the platter with a tachometer and correcting the turning of the motor".
It is the MK11 which uses the crystal. The above quote was taken from a history of the SP10
Will the frequency change from 60-50hz allow the use of a stepdown transformer

Hi Haydn,
The frequency change will have no effect as direct
drives do not use AC synchronous motor principles.
The "tachometer" referred to in your quote is almost
certainly referenced to a quartz / crystal oscillator.

SP 10
I aquired the information about the original SP10 from www.xs4all.nl/~rabruil/sp10page.html. I hope you are correct in your assumptions. I will let you know how it works when the Maplins transformer arrives.
