Technics SOAD70A Laser diode Power

Hi everyone,

Have a question on the SOAD70A optics. I have looked through many of the forums and can't quite find the answer to do with what the SOAD70A laser power should be in mW. I understand that laser diodes are current dependent devices which is why setting laser power by mA is most often used, however I have a Leader Laser Power Meter and was wanting to set power of the SOAD70A using this meter.

I could calculate the power from VA but just wanted to know what power these SOAD70A units a set to. If you know the answer or have a working CD player with SOAD70 optics you can measure please let me know the power.

Hello,

I don't have a laser power meter, neither a new SOAD70A mech. But I can tell you that in my SL-PS900 the amplitude of the eye diagram signal at the measurement points - as my old, probably 1st gen. DSO oscilloscope displays - is only 343mVpp (they say it should be 0.8 to 1.3Vpp). The CDplayer functions flawlessly on every stamped CD, including slow/fast search. I heard that searching back is considered the ultimate test. As I don't use/have any CD-R, I only assume that this kind of media will not be read by my player.
Also, there's nothing changed inside this player (electrolytics etc). I bought it 13 years ago and I use it every single day.

For measurement of a new mech., try contacting this user here, maybe he can help answering exactly to your question.

Good luck,
Cosmin

Hi JonSnell,

Thank you for your reply. Yes, precisely which is why I want to set the power using my Leader power meter. I do actually have it working at 0.15mW but is most likely on the low side and wanted to adjust it to Spec. Will try contacting the user Iomis suggested as he comes from years at Technics and will likely know.

Cheers
Ivan
