I was given a Technics SL-D212 minus the headshell, cartridge and stylus.I went over it and found the dreaded brown conductive glue had stopped the strobe light from working,Ive fixed that, then found it has a broken (grey/black) wire in the tonearm where it exits to go into the body of the turntable. What I need to know is. Do all Technics headshells and tonearm wires fit the different model tonearms or are they model specific? What would be the best way of going about getting these parts? Is there something missing on the end of the balance knob in the photo? Im a noob when it comes to repairing Turntables. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.😀

These Technics turntables were fairly similar to the SL-1200 models popular for DJ use.

There might be something missing from the back of the counterweight, but it could be just a decorative trim ring or something like that. There was probably also an extra threaded weight you could screw into the back of the counterweight, for use with an extra-heavy cartridge.

The headshell is almost certainly the standard type as used in SL-1200mkII, etc. You should be able to get a compatible headshell from musical instrument or pro audio shops that sell DJ gear. Stanton makes a decent headshell meant for DJs that should fit your Technics tonearm.

The tonearm wiring should be similar as well. I'm also not an expert with this kind of thing, but I'm pretty sure there should be four tonearm wires. Here in the US they're usually red and green for the right channel, and blue and white for the left channel.

The VinylEngine website has owners and service manuals for this model.

I hope that helps.

Thanks for that Rongon,I traced the broken grey/black wire in the tonearm to the earthing connector that goes to the amplifier to stop any hum. Then I found a round black thing when I was vacuuming,it was the part from the back of the tonearm weight but it was made of plastic. Its a fake weight to make it look like the expensive model SL-1200. Now I just have to figure out how to re-attach the earthing wire to the tonearm without having to re-wire the whole thing, any ideas?
