Hi there,
I recently picked up my elderly father's pride and joy in the hope I'd be able to get it repaired for him. It appears to work perfectly when cold but after a few minutes of operation, the sound crackles and breaks up and then disappears completely. It comes back again if the machine is turned off and left to cool down so I'm guessing it's maybe a dry joint somewhere. I'm not an expert by any means but can wield a soldering iron if I knew where to look. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be?
Thanks in advance!

Hi StirlingSteve
After the sound has disappeared, does the cd continue to rotate and the display show track no., elapsed time progressing etc.?
If so, you may well be correct about a dry joint. Your best chance of locating it may be through gentle prodding/tapping with an insulated probe of some sort during those first few minutes of operation.

Yep, all else seems to operate as normal so I guess it is a dry joint then. I'll have a poke about 🙂
I'll have a look at those links too, thanks for posting them.

In case you need the Service Manual, I just tripped over it while surfing...

Does the muting still work? when it runs "cold" does the player go into pause? music stops ....
If not or some poor results ....
There is a main fault in the vrds10 in the vrds10 se they have changed it
i post it here:
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-source/53300-teac-vrds-10-service-help-needed-4.html#post2525674
its about a resistor that gets really hot (dac section)
Maybe its that problem the transistor switch the muting on the opamps
