TASCAM CD-601 troubles.
Well, you know me, I always searching for trouble.
Now I found it.
I bought a TASCAM CD-601, because I don't have a CD player, other than some PC drive.
When I bought it, I tried this. It was far from perfect, only some signs of life.
This was spinning the CD, what I put in it, but wasn't play it.
So I thought, that infamous Sony KSS151A laser isn't totally dead.
Therefore I was bargained in a bit and I bought it.
I took it home.
And here began my well deserved (perhaps demanded by myself) Stations of the Cross.
What can I do with it?
I was checked powersupply electrolitics with my ESR meter, they seems to be good, despite of 23 years what they have.
I was found this site:
Laserology
So I was cleaning the laser unit.
And voilá, this began to play CDs.
But what is this crackling sound?
So it wasn't a full success.
But I now use to play CDs this equipment about some months.
If somebody interested in, I will tell you the solution, and how I find it.
Regards,
Gyuri

I hope you didn't just turn the laser current up higher 😀
You will never guess what was.
Just as I would not, if I do not get help.
Now I'm going to wash the dishes, then I will tell you the secret. 🙂
I hope this will help to keep alive some of the TASCAM CD-601s.

I was done enormous efforts for finding some information about TASCAM CD-601.
But I practically didn't found any.
Then I came across this hungarian site:
CD/SACD Javítás - Oldal 5 - Lejátszók, felvev?k, tunerek, DAC-ok - AVX Fórumok
(The last comment on the bottom of the page.)
There was a same problem with same TASCAM CD-601, and later turned out, same solution for me.
So on the BLDC motor panel there are two little 4,7uF elco, whose filter the DC supply line, and these were bad. I replaced them, and this very nice old (and very good sounding) equipment working flawlessly ever since.

That's quite an unusual fault, particularly on such small motor assemblies. Great result anyway. Lets hope it helps others
Yeah, I hope so!
I think I will take some photo of this CD-601.
But it would be nice if it would be possible to get a service manual.
I know there is not too many chance.
Or at least some technical specs, about TASCAM CD-601.
Because I have nothing.

Hi there,
I also own such a great Tascam CD-601 now. The Laser Optic runs smoothly and stable. But after about an hour of operation, I always hear dropouts in the sound. Kind of sporadic blubs. Seems to be a thermic problem, because it never appears from the beginning after turning on the player.
Can someone help? Where can I find these capacitors that were talked about here?
Best greetings from Hamburg
André
