hi all- its a clean machine- cannot see any wear on heads- im using the recommended tape- big bass rise at 15 ips - 7.7 ips is bass a bit weak and a treble rise- the 15 is the more credible so i just turn the bass down on the amp- i would like to know opinions?

Really depends on what tape you are using, and was deck set up for that tape.
used to do quite a bit of recording with the 22, 32 and 42. If you use a Scotch formulation tape with Ampex bias settings, you will get the phonomena you described.
double check your bias and overbias and see if that solves it.

hi- i read the recomended tape is maxell ud 35-90b- which is the tape im using-it the best sounding one i have tried-it is totally possible the machine has been recalibrated
First: RTFM!!!
Tascam 22-2 2-Track Recorder/Reproducer Manual | HiFi Engine
Use it to calibrate your machine to your tape. For NEW tape, best bang for the buck is ATR's MDS-36. That is what I would use.
