So I have been using a 2XTPA3116D2 for my kitchen build with a chromecast Audio as the source and a pair of Boston Acoustics A26 drivers
I recently replaced the speakers with somewhat less sensitive KEF Q300s and now I can't help but feel that the TPA3116D2 is a tad underpowered for them..
With the older speakers, I couldn't see a difference between the TPA board and my benchmark Marantz PM17SA Amp but the KEF seems to be be thriving on the Marantz but not so much on the TPA3116 board
I am planning to order a Sure TAS5630 board on an upcoming US visit later this month:
https://www.amazon.com/2x300W-TAS56...e=UTF8&qid=1476303176&sr=8-5&keywords=tas5630
Anyone who has had experience with both the chips and can weigh in if it makes any sense to do this?
How does the SQ between the 2 compare?

Also, would be great if anyone could chime in with how the TAS5630 compares with the TDA7498 vs the TPA3116D2
There seems to be a lot more info around the TDA7498 but the TAS5630 seems to be more or less an unknown (or at least less popular) choice

TAS5630 would seem on paper to be a tad overpowered for a pair of kitchen monitors.
I would say TDA7498 would be the next step up.
Either of the above needs volts to perform. ISTR TDA7498 30-36V, TAS5630 48V.

Thanks - Just ordered a finished SMSL TDA7498 from parts express..TAS5630 would seem on paper to be a tad overpowered for a pair of kitchen monitors.

Needed to close the order this week to receive it in time to pick up on an upcoming trip to the US
Since the order was $1 short of free shipping and they had a $14 off on orders over $135, ended up ordering a TAS5630 for an incremental $35 just to try one out 🙂
Will post back the findings once am back from the trip later this month
I've done something similar except traded my morel low efficiency speakers and tpa3116 for high efficiency fane mids / faital pro compression drivers and tas5630.
The amps need some tweaks (heatsinks and voltage regulators) but are much louder on 48V &97db than 24V and 88db.
On retrospect, with the low cost of a 48V PSU, I should not have bothered with the lower power devices. Sound quality is better with a grounded SMPS than with a laptop brick. Headroom is greater and the amps cost about the same.
Recommended 🙂
See "Econowave" for speakers. The Morels still sound great at moderate volume, the compression driver, pro audio mids and 60L 22hz ported sub blow them away at live levels. Pink Floyd becomes wow! And bb king sounds like he's sitting in with me. Immense headroom that I've not had in home audio before.
