Is there a qts range thats will ballpark an acceptable design?

Or is the joy in noodling in hornresp?
Noodling in Hornresp will eliminate speakers that don't work.
It won't tell you about distortion, stay away from light cones if you don't like distortion at high drive levels.

I tried three speaker types (pair of Eminence Lab 12, an Eminence 4015LF, and a B&C18SW115-4) in the same Keystone TH, ranging from .3 QTS to .5 QTS, they all worked OK, though the B&C was the best by far in terms of output, low distortion and sound quality.

Some designs don't work so well with differing speakers, the Lab 12 would be terrible in the Othhorn, for instance, while the B&C18SW115 would work well.

There seems to be a lot of relatively inexpensive car subs that work well in TH.

TH, like BR, come in all shapes, sizes and F3, there is a fairly wide range of what will work in them.

Depends on how small you want to make it with the understanding that the compression ratio increases, just like with any vented alignment, so for prosound TH apps, it's probably not a good idea to have a really stiff suspension like some car audio 'subs' have.
