A few months ago I wanted to start a build with some Tang Band W3-871 speakers I have here but at the same time I had a midi controller project going on and all my spare time went in that. The controller is now finished and I started thinking about the speakers again. I do listen a lot to music that has a lot of lower frequency sounds so I do need a ported design I guess. I looked for hours and hours at different designs and I can't make my mind up. There is a stunning design aka Cyburg Needle that seems to produce a good amount of bass compared to the speaker size. Problem is that I want to put these on a shelf / desk so the Needle is too big sadly. Is there another option ?
Is a transmission line my option to go for ? It doesn't need to play loud.

There is also the Tabaq YL. Both it and the Cyburg can be folded. I think someone has folded the Tabaq already.

I Just finished a couple of the Tabaq TL, and Im very satisfy with it... Easy to build and Great sound with a nice bass for such a little driver.
My first speaker build was the Cyburg Needle with the W3-871, and it is still my favorite, since I am a bang-for-the-buck fan. But, I think that even teh folded version is still a bit too big for a bookshelf, whereas the Tabaq TL looks mighty nice! Let us know how they sound - I can say that the W3-871 is a great little driver, with lots of detail.

If you think the Tabaq are too big... You could have a Look at this design...
Design of Zaph's W3-871S Fullrange Monitors
But this is not a TL...

I considered building them but imo these need a little extra for some lower freq. I'll start with the Tabaq box and see what that gives. They are bigger than the Zaph design but will still fit my desk.
Unless there would be another smaller TL design ?

i have done some rough calcs based on the W3-1285SG for a 10:1 taper TL. I dont have the MJK mathcad sheets so response isnt simmed. From memory the line was really quite short using this taper, and no reason not to fold it once to fit desktop app. I used just the alignment tables to do this, but i can post the open and closed end areas and driver offset if your interested.
Alternatively you could download the XL spreadsheet at QW.com and use the specs for your driver.

Just registered here. A few years back I built 4 vented speakers with the TB W3-315. It was a fun project from Parts Express. Here's the link. http://stories.parts-express.com/stories/2444-en_us/category/Speaker/story/16508/redirect.htm.
