Looking at the impedance plot, these devices are heavily ferrofluid-damped. Also, the secondary impedance peak shows that venting to the back chamber may not be optimal.
Has anybody taken these apart? The back chamber seems to be glued onto the front plate. What is the best way to get rid of this glue? What happens then? Is the VC self centering or will it be near impossible to put the stuff back together?

No I have never taken one apart. But When and if you do send me your finding.
I do have Laud graphs on the 847s.

Hi Al,
if these are graphs, i.e. do not require Laud to view them, please send or post.
Thanks,
Eric

Received another pair of the 28-847. One of them makes a clicking sound when I slightly dent the dome. The other three (and no other soft dome tweeter I know of) make this kind of sound. I suspect it is not the dome, but a malcentered VC?
Is it the dome hitting against the pole piece?
I have a pair of soft dome tweeters here with the self-centering VCs and they actually put a piece of foam behind the dome so that if you push it in, it pops back out... it's neat. 🙂

That foam (or more often pressed paper) is there to absorb sound which would otherwise bounce back from the pole piece virtually unattenuated.
No, I am not pressing far enought to dent the dome all the way, just a few mm. This tweeter is the only one (of its kind and also compared to other modelss) that clicks.
