Dave Berning has used switchers

So had Nagra. Never heard any of their SMPS powered stuff though; magazines seem to adore it while the only thrustworthy person i know who's heard them is not that impressed.

I recently heard the new Chord which admittedly sounded quite nice for SS and also uses SMPS.

So, yes, it probably can be done. It's very tempting to think that one day half the huge chunks of metal will be gone from valve amps... will i live long enough to see it?

I have briefly tried a 'normal' smps as the source of power for indirect heaters. The results were audibly disastrous.
