Switch Circuit Advice Needed

Hi All.

I have joined this forum in the hope I can get some advice.
Today I just (almost) completed my first ever audio/electronics project.
It is an audio input/output sector switch box. I realise you probably see a lot of these, so sorry.

My circuit contains a centre-off DPDT switch that is wired to the two 3.5mm audio sockets that will ultimately be used as the inputs (game console and computer). I then have 3 other 3.5mm sockets, each wired to a separate DPST switch. Two of these sockets will be my standard output options (theatre headphones and computer speakers), while the third will be used as a spare AUX input.

Anyway I have it all soldered and ready to be mounted to my desk setup, and it seems to mostly work. However I have two issues:
1. When the input is plugged in completely, the audio is very "tinny" sounding and has no bass. If I pull the plug out the tiniest little bit, I get mostly normal audio. Can anyone provide some sort of reasoning for this?
2. When using my laptop as one of the inputs, and my computer speakers (Logitech 2.1 system) the audio is very noisy and also experiences the same tinny and bass-less quality.

Final notes:
- When the input is slightly pulled out, as explained, the audio I get through standard headphones is pretty good.
- I have posted a circuit diagram that is pretty much the same as mine. Only difference is that I connected the centre poles of each switch together to complete the circuit, I couldn't figure out how to draw that using the program (sorry i only used one colour, but you should be able to see what is happening) Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet
- I have no idea how to ground the sockets? Inputs grounded separate to outputs?
- Do I need to ground the sockets? How should I do this?
- Do I need to ground the switches?
- Am I missing anything that will elevate this from an O.K. switch to a great switch?

Thank you in advance to anyone that can help me out.

This can happen when an unbalanced stereo TRS connector gets confused with a balanced mono TRS connector. The connectors are identical, but the meaning of the wiring is quite different. The result is that you get the difference of the two stereo channels, which will lack bass.

You need to carefully study the wiring diagrams for your connections.
