Hi Guys, yes I'm new, thanks for having the board! Lots of VERY useful info here, enough that I'm now teetering on the ordering stage.
in short, I've stumbled across an LCD and I'm wondering if anyone else has dismantled one?
a Super SP-866 1024x768 8inch LCD
(thats an ebay link so it wont work forever)
my goal is to make a projector (be it on 1st or 2nd try) with a minimum of 1024x768.
given that here in Australia it's tricky to find 15 inch LCDs anymore, and those that are around are about $20 less than a 17 - I was looking very seriously at a 17 inch 1280x1024 screen. The only downside I could find was size, but it appears that the Projection lenses currently around take more fiddling than I would like to do on first try - so back to tracking down a 2nd hand 15 I went.
Then I stumbled on the above LCD, of course before I buy it I'm curious if anyone else has successfully or unsuccessfully dismantled one?
would be a plus to get the 1024x768 res but be able to build a MUCH smaller box around the 8 inch LCD.
extras, I'll be using a MH bulb and probably looking to build in a fold.
once again, THANKS

nice but not 1024 by 768!
The specs they give in the advert just don't add up! If the pixels are 0.107mm(H) by 0.372mm(V), then 1024 by 768 would have to be 109.6 mm wide by 285.7 mm tall. So they are taking some liberties with the truth.
1024 by 768 is probably not the native resolution of the LCD, but rather the maximum input signal. The monitor's electronics scale it to fit the real native resolution, whatever that is! I bet it is more like 640 by 244.
