Strong 12" sub under $1000...
There are a lot of options for a good pair of subwoofers for under 1000$ shipped! 1000RMS per sub you say? How's 1200RMS per sub? http://www.soundsplinter.com/rls_series/rls12_inch_LMT_DIY_car_home_subwoofer_information.html
Haven't heard them personally, but have experience with the cheaper (and smaller!) RLi series, and couldn't be happier (two RLi-8's in the girlfriend's car...gotta love a girl who likes the bass! 😀 ). Two will run you 459$ each, for a total of 918$ before shipping. They get my vote!
Good luck!

if you're just going for high SPL you should try looking at some pro drivers. They all have high sensitivity and most have high power handling. Small xmax is typical, but you said SPL and not mega low bass, and well a car is a forgivable environment for a low Xmax driver...
Efficiency I think is important if you wanna get ahead in the car audio SPL game... Whats the point in spending big bucks on megawatts if you could double, triple, or quadruple your efficiency and not need near as much power. Good high power car amps are expenisve, along with batterys, and high guage wire

ok just got two DD 9512 subwoofers .. what amp should i be looking at ? orion 2500d , Earthquake d3 or two jbl 1200 ? any other ?
Not to steal the thread, but I think BassAwdyO has a very good point about using pro drivers. In a past install I used two Madison Executioner 12's in a ported 1.56 cu ft enclosure. (enclosure: http://www.cardomain.com/item/OBCGZ32812 and subs: http://stores.channeladvisor.com/musicsupplycenter/Items/700-08-4405? ) I ran them at 4 ohms with a bridged Kicker KX850.2 (I think), the sound was superb and very loud. At $89 each, they produce amazing output and quality, but not in the same league as say Sound Splinters Supreme Series, or Ascendant Audio's Avalanhce series.
BassAwdyO, have you seen or heard the Executioners? What pro drivers did you have in mind? I am very interested in this route especially at the $100 price point. Many of my friends just want SPL, but dont have tons to spend.
Thanks,
NaftaliG

NaftaliG,
I have heard of the executioner subs and I've looked over their specs before. They seem to be a good deal as far as bang for the buck, but know a few things. The efficiency is rated at ~99db@1w. This is not entirely accurate. Although I'd say you will do better than 95db/1watt. Excursion is low so LF output is also limited. Enclosures must be large to have good LF extension, but in a car this is more forgiveable.

I'm not too into car audio stuff anymore, but zapco used to have some monster amps. Memphis audio did too I believe.
