Stupid transformer question I should know but don't

Does a transformer with no load on the secondary draw current?

I noticed on a cd player I took apart that the power switch was on the secondary, so even when switched off, the primary was connected to 120v. This has to waste energy, right?

Yea it draws a little bit of current through the primary to maintain a magnetic field in the core. So yep it wastes power :/

Thanks. Looks like I'll be connecting a power switch on the primary side for my new project.
