I am building HT and heather supplies with LifePO4 batteries.
I am thinking about to use this batteries to supply also the SOZ.

I tried a ~5W SOZ with batterys. I can't recomend doing this
the constant recharging realy shortens the batterys life unless
you go to some realy big batterys. In my case 4 7AH gell cells
gave me less than an hour of music and they died after about
30 charge discharge cycles because they were not deep cycle rated.

Hello Woody,
google for LifePO4: this batteries are used in hybrid cars!
The balancing electronic is drawned. We are starting today the braining for the big power charger.

here some interesting links for batteries:

Regardless of their intended use, it is always best to drain a battery no more than half way. I have heard that the battery cycle used in a Prius is very very gentle on the batteries. Remember the 100,000 mile warranty on the batteries. They need to last. Even the best of deep cycle batteries will have shortened life if drained 100%.

I like:
- Mundorf capacitors,
- PRP resistors.
The batterie design with charger coming soon (starting wenesday).
If you really wanna spend that kind of money on caps, I suggest you look elsewhere than Mundorf. There are quite a few better industrial caps out there.
Magura 🙂
Vishay makes some pretty neat naked film caps, Wima, and Rifa makes some hefty film caps as well.
At any rate, you'll have a hard time not getting more for your money from any of the above mentioned, than from Mundorf.
Pic is an example of the Vishay naked PP film caps I recently bought, 164uF 500V.

The circuite and parts list you have is for a ZEN amplifier not
a SOZ amplifier. And why not build a later version of the ZEN
they are suposed to be much better?

Hey good catch Woody.
...but the original Zen is a good learning experience, coupled with a sound that some people actually like a lot.

Hello Jean-Paul,
Nice project! A question though:
You have choosen gain to be x1(1k/1k). If this is your intention, why not go for a source-follower instead? Same gain and high Zin.

All this supposition...
This amplifier is my first project with semiconductors. My preference are tubes. But only bad guys never change the opinion.
And thanks, I know that other parts can be used. I know WIMA, and take a look a the new products. Big film capacitors with very good specifications.
I will built this one, SOZ or ZEN, I don´t care. Do the measurements and my comments.

Jean-Paul,
I too am about to use these LiFePO4 batteries but to power a DAC - I believe that they will be wonderful powering your preamp. I'm interested in your charger schematic.

Hi Keny,
next week, we start the braining:
- LTC balancing up to 1000VDC,
- and specific charger for 1 to N batteries.
What is the supply voltage of the preamp?
