On my SSE sometimes (randomly) the left channel will stop working and the right will simultaneously get weak/thin.
Turning it off and on again resolves the issue. Oddly enough if I turn it off with the music still playing both speakers start playing again as soon as a flip the switch OFF and then gradually fade together as it powers down.
No pops or thumps. Board seems fine.
Any tips on where to look?

I just had some weird issue with my SSE where one channel would intermittenly go quiet and the other channel would go very loud. Turning it off then on solved it in my case as well. Solved by replacing the input tube.

Interesting for sure as my SSE developed the same issue a few months ago. I also have replaced the input tube several times which seemed to fix it, but the issue has always returned in a week or so. I can't believe all my 12AT7 tubes went south. I have the board in a solid wood case and now I found when it happens a small knock on the front of the cabinet while playing fixes it for another week or so. I've been thinking of looking at what else could be causing the problem. Something a little loose inside? Maybe tightening the green 2 and 3 pin terminal strip connections? The SSE is like 10 years old and normally plays wonderfully besides that issue.
Same when mine had an issue. A knock on the case could stop it or start it. I checked for bad connections a number of times but never found any. I tried just unplugging and reseating all the tubes as well but that did not help. Replaced the output tubes and no change. Finally replaced the driver and it has been perfect for the last few months.
When you say driver do you mean the power tubes?Same when mine had an issue. A knock on the case could stop it or start it. I checked for bad connections a number of times but never found any. The screw connectors can work their way loose over time, especially if they are subject to vibration. I need to tighten the screws in my guitar amp every year or so, but the amp head sits on top of the speaker cabinet.I've been thinking of looking at what else could be causing the problem. Other likely sources of intermittent operation are solder joints that have become brittle from repeated hot - cold cycles and vibration, and tube sockets that have become loose, dirty or both. If you have the board out of the case, resolder all the tube socket pins where they pass through the board. Sometimes a small amount of WD40 or similar on the 12AT7 pins can fix an intermittent socket. WD40 is flammable and messy so use it sparingly or use a contact cleaner made for this purpose like DeoxIT.....I just happened to have a can of WD40 handy.
