I'm going to get some baffles CNC machined and then finished in automotive paint. Nothing fancy just primer, base coat, top coat then satin lacquer.
Can anyone tell me (in mm would be ideal) the clearance I have to leave to allow for the paint build up when calculating the cutout for the driver?
I don't want a huge gap round the drivers but I don't want to use a mallet to get them in the rebates 🙂

Paint like that would typically be around 100 microns or 0.1mm if sprayed on a car. The problem with wood is how much extra is put on then flatted back to cover the edge texture. I would allow 0.5mm.

0.5mm is minimum and .75mm max. Per side so overall 1mm to 1.5mm max. But make sure you measure each driver individually, they can vary heaps depending on the brand.
