I apologize if this is a too-common question, but I need help selecting drivers for a two-driver 2-way (preferably sealed). My "special" requirements are that the drivers be inexpensive (each sub-$30) and be easy to work with (1st order XO, no notches, etc.). So probably they should have reasonably flat response curves and sound good right out of the box (or rather, in the box...).
As you may have noticed, I have posted questions related to particular drivers, but none turned out to be what I seek.
Thanks.

Not exactly what I was looking for, but thanks for the quick reply. I'm thinking mid-fi with a good dome tweeter and a small midbass. Of importance is a clean midrange, since I can't expect much bass from such a system.

MB20
Are you opposed to building from plans? If not try the MB20.
I just got my MB20's up and running this week and they sound very nice. I don't know the details of the crossover as I just soldered it together. The details can be found here:Murphy Blaster MB20
Very nice sounding and they actually have some nice bass for the size.

Re: MB20
Thanks, ultrachrome, but I'd really like to design my own system. And if I could keep costs under $100 a pair, that would be great.

Have you already check this interesting project and nice design ?

Check out the drivers offered by GR Research. They carry a small woofer that has great range and less than $30US. It should be able to handle a first order network. They have tweeters too.
http://www.gr-research.com/drivers.htm I built a nice two way using the Pioneer driver and a GR tweeter.

Thanks, Lionel, I have checked this one out. It is interesting, but is a single-driver speaker marketable (my ultimate goal)? If it has potential, I will have to design my own system...based on the 871, of course.

So I cannot help you anymore...
...But always interested by all interesting adventures.
Keep us informed. 🙂

NO BASS???? Wow i have had the B20 in a BR and a TQWT and found the bass to be room shaking.
Best results are rolling in a tweet at around 8Khz.I picked up a silk dome 4 ohm tweet from PE and used a solen cap to roll it in.
However i have moved on since then and am into full ranger fostex rear loaded front firing horns.
Really i mean this, the B20 is known for its bass.
