We have a Beyma distributor nearby that carries Penn-Elcom products.
They have all sorts of hardware for speaker building. I usually buy grilles from them.

If you'd like to cover the entire face of the loudspeaker, google "hardware cloth". It's what I'm considering using to replace some PA metal grills. I may put home audio speaker grill foam between a front and back layer of the hardware cloth.
If you use acoustic transparent foam (ie 3 mm thick) to cover the grill from the outside, you can use a grill that doesn't look that great itself. Wire mesh grill in sufficient sizes is often used by people that want to customize their car looks. It often needs some "3D-forming" (like bending/ rounding) to get up to the desired strength for speaker grills though.
