sony ta-fb940r qs,left channel hardly there.

picked up a sony ta-fb940r qs real cheap,and left channel very quiet and mushy,any ideas??

Since it does not go into protect mode, the problem can't be too severe. Does it occur with all the inputs? Check for contact problems e.g. in source-direct and tape monitor switches. If the issue is much less severe when using headphones, you probably need a new protection relay; also take a look at the speaker terminals' solder joints.

have also find that the bass control knob is pretty near seized,could this be the problem.
