Sony STRDE485 one channel out (SOLVED)

Several weeks ago, L channel seems to go out especially when I turned it on, sometime if I turned up the volume, L channel recovers and get stereo, finally today, it is dead on L, R is fine.

Basic change/switch of speaker wires, with another amp I get a nice stereo. I concluded it is the receiver. Headphone connected on the face plate I get both channels playing fine!

I am not very good with electronics, but can spot a bad capacitor, fuse..., can someone give me a hint as to what to look for?, will be looking at the input side of the board (but I am using the optical input), near the input connections.

I was able to download service manual here but can't decipher much... http://sportsbil.com/sony/STR/STR-D/STR-DE485_v1.0_sch.pdf

thanks in advance.

Most likely dry solder joints of the relays.. heat + apply more solder and they should be good to go.. look for other joints with cracks in them too

I took it apart, resoldered the relay? (circled 4 joints, checked +speaker channel to the arrowed joint which was OK with continuity tester). Board and joints looked OK grossly otherwise. Put it together and still the same problem.

My question is did I solder the relay correctly? Should have guessed if the joint was bad it should not have continuity...

More suggestion please.

1st Pic, inside near the bad speaker connector, and suspected relay (2 arrows), 2nd pic, bottom side view of the relay joints.

Like jaycee said, it is most likely the contacts in relay 701. The relay and headphone jack are fed from the same circuit, so you have signal coming from the output of the amp. I've had good luck removing the cover from the relay and cleaning the contacts with super-fine sandpaper. Just slide a small strip of abrasive between the contacts while holding them closed with your finger. A tiny amount of sanding should do it. Be careful removing the cover and don't bend the spring parts of the contacts. I know the contacts are plated and sanding them will remove this but it's worth a try.

Saw this video and I can try this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naEajoxaUu0

take the cover off and use sand paper on contacts (on video uses paper strip soaked in contact cleaner), thanks, will do this tomorrow.

thanks, it worked!!, took the cover off the relay and used the sandpaper, 3 runs after turning the receiver on so makes good contact with sandpaper and slide it out.

now works perfectly both channels. Thanks for all the help.
