thinking of xover tonight.....
the circuit I am going to use is below, the plans call for a 0.33mH inductor, and recommends a low resistance 1.5mm copper air coil.
I can get this from Jaycar
0.33mH at 0.37ohm 0.8mm copper
is the decrease in diameter a problem - should I pay the extra for the 1.5mm??

i'd spring for the bigger conductor
The larger the wire used in the coil, the lower the resistance.
This can definitely effect the intended outcome.
I would always go with the recommended components or you run the risk of compromising the original intent.

Use the component values as initial values only, without the prototype box details from Mass, such a design is almost as hopeful as a text book circuit 🙂
