I follow the instructions in this video and after rotating 1/4 turn on the top end, cannot pull apart and have pulled close to breaking. Also, jamming the tool on its yellow top end onto a table does not dislodge the tip, it just bottoms out. I have stripped up the tip trying to pull it out, rotates, but does not come out. Any ideas?

God. I remember those things. The early model had a big knob on the end that would pop you in the eye if you weren't careful. They redesigned it.
No idea why it would be that jammed. Usually it's a ring of solder between the internal rod and the tip.

I gave up on them long ago and just use 'soder wick' braid of a gauge appropriate for the hole or solder joint I am trying to clear. Much less frustrating and more reliable.
Truthfully I would toss it
