WELL, my tempest arrives, all is right with the world after a crappy day of exams, i open the package up, and my god its beuatiful. too bad the SPYDER ISNT ATTATCHED!!!. The plasting ring connected to the spyder is just loosely floping around.

This is pain as ive never felt it before 🙁. it took more than a week to get here, and its gonna take forever to send it back and make it anew.

How easy is it to re attatch this ring, anyone in the toronto area willing to help?

I must admit, this thing is a BEAST.

Theres also some irony, in that i was hesitant to buy a tempest, cause i had read that this happened to some people, i assured my self it probably wouldnt considering how many people ther are out there happy with there tempests, but i guess i was wrong.

I say make 'em pay round trip shipping to rectify the problem - if enough people do it, they will sort the problem REAL quick. Don't feel sorry for them - MFG cost for those in quantity is probably ~$40....

I agree 100%. And whatever you do, don't try to fix it yourself, or power it, or do anything that could leave a physical mark. They messed up bigtime, and they should see that in its pristine (and IMO, embarassing) condition.

im kinda ****ed cause part of the gaskget is a bit iffy, i think its canada posts problem, the box was pretty damn marred when it got here. I have nothing against adire audio. Sending it back sounds like a great idea, but its gonna take 1 month+. Besides adire is already backordered on tempest drivers, so if they need to replace im waiting even LONGER. im mainly worried about losing my warranty if i re glue. I think i may need to email mr.dan wiggins.

Has anyone re glued one of these and had sucess? do you think it was canada post's problem?

If you care about warranty (i usually dont, most of my speakers that go bad are from overpowering, i test them out when i first get them and if they check out ok im good) then DO NOT try to fix it yourself. if yo ureally want to e-mail your problem t othe adire Techies, if they tell you how to fix it e-mail them back asking if you will still be covered under full warranty. If thye say yes print a copy and save it on your computer. if you do need to use your warranty later on and they give you any BS about self fixing send them a copy of the e-mail.

Adire audio said that the tolerences on the tempest are too tight to be reglued reliably, and that I will need to send it in. Shipping charges will be reimbursed, but only for ground shipping, meaning that ill be stuck speakerless for one hell of a long time.

1.5 weeks shipping to washington(needs to go through customs and cross a border)
2-4 week warrenty turnover
then 1.5 weeks shipping back to toronto.

bottom line is I could scream right now

:bawling:

It good to know that Adire doesn't take care of it's customers. Future purchases on my part will be from a different manufacturer.

If you want to give me your name I'll drop a note to them on your behalf.

You may want to send them a mail and tell them that their poor customer service is now a matter of record at DIY audio.

Adire in is the proces of moving their warehouse, which means all but minor production has stoped. They are usually much better. But it seems to be a thing with the tempest to have the Spyder unglued. im sure Adire will be soon to fix this as it is costing them alot of money to have all of these speakers sent back and replaced. Im sorry for your loss of time. But it will be worth it. My tempest is sappsed to get here this weekend (if it hasnt been further backordered, i was one of the luckey ones to get ahold of one during this trying time) i know i will be ****ed if the spyder isnt attached.

Sorry to hear of your situation Stephan. I would be ****ed too.

I dont think it is a Canada Post thing. I have ordered lots of stuff from CSS in BC (including a Tempest) and it always gets to me in perfect shape. Also everything I have sent through CP has been fine. I dont think being bumped around in shipping would make the spider seperate, it is a durable driver. Probably a QC thing. Since you are ordering from the states anyway, I would see if you can return the driver and instead maybe see if there are any Atlas 15s left from www.ascendantaudio.com .

im already selling my soul pretty much to get a tempest. I can't afford an atlas.

I don't really blame adire, theyre good guys, and theyve done alot of good stuff too. I don't see how their customer service could be better either. I told them my problem, they said that i probably wouldnt get the spider on properly, and that I can send it to them and theyll pay shipping.

kinda funny to think, had the guy at css grabbed a different box, I'd be boomin right now(or pretty darn close!)

Don't mean to be hostile towards adire, im just kinda ****ed that it happened.

You can now afford an Atlas, the price dropped really low.

145$ for Atlas 12
160$ for Atlas 15
299$ for Avalanche 15
399$ for Avalanche 18

The Atlas line can now compete in price with Shiva and Tempest. Performance is better but Fs is a bit higher.

sorry to hear that must be like a nightmare! there has also been a shiva bought i heard about on another forum with exact, same problem! i just got a DPL 12 from them that was fine but, after hearing you had the same misfortune, i don't think i will ever order another driver of that brand or any thing from them. sounds like they have poor quality control to me must not have any one to inspect their products before shipping bad way to run a buisness! two times i heard of spyder not glued is just too much. if i were you i would contact them and tell them not to wait to receive the one you have before, shipping you another as you shouldn't have to wait that extra time. they should find, and send you another plus money for you to ship the other one back. hope you get treated right, good luck crippledchicken 🙂

NEW DEVELOPMENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS**

*Recieved an email back from adire, they say i can either go ahead with glueing and keep my warrenty(unusual that they would say it now). Or i can send to CSS for a refund.

*I modelled the Atlas 15" in my current enclosure, and it has an earlier roll off, but a tiny bit more LF efficiency. (i.e. very nicely indeed)

*I have the money to get the atlas.

*my mom (though pi$$ed at my fickle-ness) has agreed to let me use her credit card to get the driver**.

** just USE it, i still have to pay her back, im nto THAT spoiled.

glad you got things worked out. i try to order by phone when possible so i can request that they make sure to at least, phisically inspect my item before shipping. i don't like just ordering over internet seems too risky to me. good luck, and enjoy! when you get the new atlas.

🙂

For those complaining about the service, please check our warranty - if it is a manufacturer's defect (our fault), we'll send you a new driver AND a check for shipping. Anyone else do that?

And we do have an occasional bad driver get past QC. We still have a failure rate around 0.5%, though. We're trying to make it better but two drivers with a bit of a glue starved joint shouldn't be reason to declare the whole company terrible...
