Smoking, Tattoos and Fashion Trends

Way back in the 60's, smoking was perfectly acceptable and tattoos were not. It seems there has been a 180 deg flip in recent years.
Caftans, long hair, tie dyed tee shirts and bell bottoms did not stay in fashion too long and were soon discarded
I wonder if decorated skin will eventually go out of fashion and just how will it effect those with tattoos?
I would hate having to wear platform shoes and flair pants in perpetuity.😛

I drove into town for food today, a female blimp walked out in front of the car. It had a skimpy top on showing off stretched full arm tattoos, blueish coloured bingo wings flapping in the freezing air as it walked past :yuck:

I had lunch later today than usual.

Seems to me that fashion is a lot less strict than it used to be. A lot more "Anything Goes". Long hair, short hair, beards or not, wide or skinny ties, solids or prints, tattoos or not. I agree with theGimp, the tattoo stigma may be gone forever, or at least for our lifetime.

In most parts of the world.

In Japan, tattoos are still very unacceptable. Unless, of course, you are Zakuza.

It is so engrained in the culture that people with tattoos are not allowed in public onsens.

Onsens, by the way, are one of the best things about Japan. I am so glad I never got a tattoo just for that reason alone.

Regarding smoking; I am actually thinking of starting again. I am one of those rare people who can take it or leave it. Have a few smokes once in a while and then go ages without. Smoke a pack a day on hunting trips with the boys, then just cold turkey when I get home. Nevertheless, I feel like I would benefit from smoking regularly. Health-wise it isn't good for me. I know that. But life is short anyway, and I like smoking. My wife would be hysterical if she heard me say any of this, of course.

Regarding fashion; I am most comfortable in jeans and t-shirts, or cargo shorts when the weather allows. I really enjoyed the grunge era WRT fashion. It allowed me to be the slob that I am and look cool while doing so. The whole hipster thing is very puzzling to me. I guess I am getting old, but why do people want to look like such douchebags?

Interesting thread

Tattoos- I just fail to see any beauty in them. Lots of people have them, but I just don't "get it" I guess.....
Fashion- It's funny as h#ll watching some dude making his way down the boulevard holding his drooping pants up by the crotch-great entertainment. usually sporting a baseball cap with a giant bill on it that you could play ping pong with...😀
Smoking- I smoke a couple Cigarillos a day, but my dog Olive (a pug) sits and stares with a look that says: "What will I do if you kill yourself?" The Cigarillos will probably go by the wayside.

While smoking by teenagers is thankfully at an over 20 yr low, of those that are, over 50% are using e-cigs, 'cause they're hip, and they think "safer", and even less addictive

really now - who exactly funds those studies?

as for tattoos - they can be tastefully done, and some I've seen on the checkout girls at Costco are simply stunning pieces of art on what must be a rather tricky canvas - what I really don't get is the extreme piercings - ear lobe plugs, nose, lip and tongue - plus one can only imagine areas usually covered. - well, OK some of those can have a certain fetish appeal

The big full beards are part of the hipster look, I think. Funny to see the come on all the sudden.

As for tats, I don't have one, don't care for one. But been thinking that since my family came to America in 1620 to grow and sell tobacco, and have been doing so for the past 395 years, maybe I need a tobacco leaf tattoo, or a cigar. 😀

I use to smoke, but now I'll just throw in a big Dip or Chaw etc xD, you know how that's viewed though haha, or a nice plug cut a big chunk off with a knife throw it in public, man you get some looks like what the **** is that guy doing etc haha, I'm no hipster , I'm still just this country/rocker/metal guy haha, Only way I would want to enjoy smoking is a nice fresh leaf wrap break up some dank in it and twist that sucker up xD

It doesn't matter if it's acceptable or not. What should matter is
understanding smoking in itself ? Manufacturers know it's a brilliant
way of making money. Governments make huge profits with their taxes
on tobacco products and the consumers enjoy themselves for awhile
until they finally get sick to death before their time. First you pay to
get sick and then you pay some more to become unsick if you're lucky.
