Smilies are funny in last few days
Reason or not - I see now we have enormouuuuuuuuuus pool of smilies - maybe that's the reason
ditch 90% of new ones, leave all old ones - we are used to them
edit: Opera;

some people do use more smilies than words... 😛 what's wrong with good old fashioned text 🙂 much quicker and those of us of a certain age can make sense of them! (edit I typed and the forum autoinserted).

You should be seeing a message at the end of each page on a closed thread.
I took that screen grab just a few minutes ago. From here:

Are there different messages? Why?

Now you're asking 🙂
I wasn't aware of two but I'm going to guess that your message is for threads that are getting close to closure but haven't quite passed the time limit. Needs a bit of searching of dates in a forum to verify.

They load quickly for me. I checked on another XF site and that has an identical set as far as I can tell so I'm assuming they come as part and parcel of the whole caboodle.
I've just noticed this which renders oddly. Thinking aloud... could that be slowing things down on your page... I remember those base 64 problems we had a while back on the old site.
paint me old fashioned, smilies I use ( old ones) are loading slooow (both while posting so waiting to see them on table, and also in finished post)
I mean - I really don't care for several additional/newer Classes of smilies
99% of these is just generic Drek, already seen everywhere on Net
edit: old ones are called "Imported Smilies" in Smilies pool

Interesting.
3 years seems to be the figure for changeover from one message to the other for closure of threads. I've found an interesting anomaly though... 😀

Smilies are slow for me too. They take a couple of seconds sometimes. Sometimes that's even enough to scroll past that post and when I scroll back I don't recognise it.
no worries, even if stays unsolved
I'll just memorize type-set for few more of them
in the end, I'm using no more than 5 or 6 different ones
