SME have announced the first new product bearing the Garrard name after it acquired the brand last year from IGB Gradiente SA of Brazil.
The product in question is the Garrard 301, supplied as a package with plinth and tonearm.
The price is yet to be finalised by SME.

Very beautiful, driven by the first turntable transmission system, the pulley, like Lenco did, Dual, etc.
Which means that the subsequent advances of driving the plate by a belt and finally a motor coupled directly to the plate did not help at all?
IMHO, a return to the past for nostalgic people.
That dish was famous because it was widely used in radio stations, because its main virtue was strength, which does not mean it does not serve high fidelity, but it's like thinking of buying a car with rear-wheel drive, a 16 horsepower engine - cylinders in line - and a body of several tons ....

They may be relaunching something but the pics show an original schedule 2 301 in an ugly plinth.
One of the best dishes of direct drive , Teac TN400, in my opinion superior to the Technics SP 10, in a plinth with the SME arm.
The only moving piece is the plate, and I think I remember that there was magnetic levitation here ....

Early days it would appear. To date, there's nothing on the SME website about the relaunch of the 301!

Very good news, wonder what it will do to 2nd hand 301 prices. Pity they are using the crappy SME arm on it.
What a ridiculous and misinformed statement. SME objectively and subjectively make some of the best tonearms in the world.
According to Fremer it'll be in the $12k range. And will probably sell in significant numbers. If they'd done the grease bearing I'm sure japan would lap them up!

OMG, I'll stay with my VPI at 1/4 price.
Ridikas, You obviously don't know your tone arms. Yes SME now make some very good arms, but they are massively overpriced tones, but the 3009 was never one on them. As syn08 says people can buy a better for a 1/4 of the price. But good luck to them if people have the money.
Cheers
