The original transistor is marked P1D which is a PMBTA42 I believe
I’m trying to replace it with An A42 transistor are the pin configurations the same or different ?

The PZTA42 is a sot223 package, the PMBTA42 is a sot23 package.
The sot223 centre pin and tab is the collector, pin 1 is the base and pin 3 is the emitter.
P1D and A42 seem to be the same device but in different packages, but this is not always guaranteed. See this SMD Codebook

I’m wondering if the original P1D and the A42 have the same pin configuration?
The A42 is only for testing to see if there are any other faults in the amp
Or if there is another transistor I can put in for testing only
