when is is too small( too inefficient or needing too much power to get -goodie great- output (need stupid, not conservative)???
one ultimax two sa1000 plate amps or racked version on each coil is possible (have multiples if these and the 15” umax too)

The problem with closed boxes that Hornresp does not show is that they tend to compress the output to sound dull and bland. This problem is exaggerated with smaller boxes and higher output, and starts becoming a problem once you get below 2 X Vas or so. A high Bl driver like the 18IPAL can take a smaller box then a comparably weaker and low Bl/high Q driver like the Dayton U18. But 2 X Vas is a good rule of thumb. A QW enclosure tend to exaggerate the dynamics instead, with makes it sound "alive" "vivid" and powerful.
i ageee with this and have experienced the same it seems . its the flat response with no knee that sucks the most. a these typical (and endless excuses) about the ‘room’ are trivial when it is the ‘start(train wreck) of dull and lifeless already ..The problem with closed boxes that Hornresp does not show is that they tend to compress the output to sound dull and bland. but i have both a ultimax 18 and B& c 18 ds115-4 to compare so they aren’t guesses they are right in front of my face where you can’t deny anything you’re stuck with it. 😆

the umax 18 is absolutely insane in a proper MLTL.
unfortunately that and something else that looks very very very tempting as a joke among us roar or high order quarter wave enclosure that probably has no business being in because it simply can’t push those gigantic air columns but who knows….. It’s too big of an expensive risk at this point(wood expense and gigantic size req even if things otherwise used as crash test dummies are phenomenally real and exhibit the exact things you expect from the response and impedance plots already
i think i very dull and unadvertuous mentality has plagued and thus missed some critically exciting things in 1/4 based layouts (3 x 1/4 specifically)

it seems its the higher order stuff that looks ‘reasonably damped / flatish ’ that is the real top of the todem pole
Well, you can't do better than this chart, so pick a size to see what efficiency can be had.
.
ROAR 2x12 will put you in the hospital!! 😝 two people both back injuries now . but never ever in the history of ironworker and structural steel fabrication have I had a real back injury from lifting… but a long time ago lumber3 cracked in a car accident. 20 years swinging sparks and sledgehammers and then a big (but skinny) speaker kicks my a$$🙂
i’m just trying to find something I can work with until this passes/heals , I never realized I forgot just what happens in a real back injury😱
