small 2 way help?

I am looking to build a set of speakers for my system.

My system is:

Arcam CD73
tube pre with 6H30 (currently)
tube amps with PP 6B4G's.
cat5 and belden cables.

I like ALL types of music. I want a set of speakers that are small using very good drivers... that have high sensitivity... so that maybe a 2.5 way system.

Very good phase and impulse response is a must.. so is time alignment.

Thinking of building an enclosure of laminated MDF.. i.e. layed together and glued...

question is what drivers??? maybe Morel tweeter.. Eton mid?

6.5" or 5 1/4" ???

I am looking for something that produces a natural female voice... but also has detail and top end "air". Something that is quick to respond.

bass below 60-70 doesn't matter.... but would be nice.

any thoughts???

TIA!

Don't have a clue, I'm not into typical cone/dome speakers. About all I can say is that a typical two way design of low-medium efficiency drivers can't come nearly as close to meeting your stated performance goals as the Lowther/Fostex combo.

single driver fullrange.

ok.

I think I will go down the path of single driver. question is which one???

I would LIKE a pair of Coral beta 8's. but to begin with should I buy those or use something a little cheaper?

either a TQWP or rear loaded horn.

looking at Fostex also.

🙂
