Thought I would post this it might be of interest to someone.

Internet explorer was running slow and locking up.
I found in top right settings, manage add-ons, providers, BING and un-ticked the check boxes for search in address bar and prevent programs from suggesting changes.

Problem solved...

FF has made really big performance strides. For a while, it was way slower. I only stoop to IE when I have to talk to MS.

Google already has everything as I search with Google. Not much difference in what they scrape. I have more issues with the amount of adds from Yahoo mail. I don't mind the ones on the side, but the new one at the top if the in list is a pain. I would move but too many people know my address.

Just put together this old Dell XP machine, put in more memory. Firefox was dragging, at 1.25MB, just as bad as when it was 512MB RAM. And that was very bad, crashes all over the place.

Couldn't figure it out so I downloaded Opera. Started zooming around with no crashes, lockups or hindrances generally. Shocked at the differences between browsers.

Another to stop lock up..Internet Explorer.

Tools.... internet options, advanced...uncheck enable third party browser extensions...restart the computer<<<

Worked for me..YMMV and as always its at your own risk..

Another funny thing: Each time you do some online research about a product, every audio forums you're a member of, they assault you with the same product advertising. Lol

They are spying on you, all those companies, to suck you dry of your money! Lol

What's next! ...You'll be buying a machine-gun and shoot at your PC's screen! Lol
No more Internet, no more dry bank account, no more spying, and we'll all gain a real life! Lol

The world of computers and all those communication/portable devices is a world of headaches and deficiencies. Lol

The only good thing is that you don't have to put gas anymore in your car (or truck) to go shopping in town; someone else do. Lol

You need to understand how "those" companies are companies. Tell me, how much did you spend on your browser? How much does it cost to use Google? IT AIN'T FREE!!!!!

It is a marvel what happens when you search. The search engine is but one small data base. Ever wonder how they get the adds up there that track your search? Not just today but last week? Wonder why most of the answers are usually on the first page, not at entry 2,432,654,006? Yes, they are not "spying" on you. They are collecting the information you voluntarily give them when you use their free services. This is how they get paid, so you don't have to pay to use it. They are very good at it and don't have the laws governing most governments to restrict what they can collect. They get paid when you click on an add. So, it is very important to them to get the adds up there they think you might go to.

Nothing stops you from only shopping in stores with cash, keep your money under the mattress, and only write letters. It is your choice to provide information to the companies so they can provide services to you. That includes the adds on this very page. I am more amazed when they get it so wrong.

Privacy; we don't have that in cyber space.

Privacy and freedom; we don't have that in real life.

Our world is sick to the bone! ...Best is to live in the jungles where no one has ever been before. ...Undiscovered terrain, total privacy, freedom and healthy emancipation (spiritual and physical).

Yes, we pay for our own advertising adds, we pay everyone for everything but except ourselves. And when we pay we also contribute to this economy. ...We provide jobs, we hire people, and we elect some to work for us as well.

Autorun..from hard drive.

How to disable the Autorun functionality in Windows

You know the spinning disk by the cursor that appears..

Its interesting that Kaspersky picks it up as well..

Just for interest.

M. Gregg

NB..I have not had a spinning disk on the cursor...IE has not locked up in 6Hrs..and Battery life has increased by a third. IE is way faster...😕

Strange..😕..I must wait a little longer to be convinced...

Hey, this is getting a bit too deep

In thinking about a response to this thread I make a quick tally of the number of devices with which I been accessing that big "system of tubes" for the past dozen years or so , and the current number of active devices is 5- with a total over the years of 4 different OS (not counting the individual generations of Apple OS10)- I've been using FF for at least 5 years on XP and W7/64 PCs at work, and iMac at home, and Chrome on the iPad on which this is being typed.

At work I have to access a particular provincial government website, as well as an on-line banking site that either will not work at all, or very poorly on FF. I cringe when forced to use the current IE on a W7 machine.

OTOH, the seamless (so far!) integration between W7, the most frequented MS Office components (Excel, Word, outlook), and the accounting/payroll software (QB Enterprise) is a joy.

Funny (?) that Kaspersky was mentioned - after an infection by a particularly nasty piece of ransom-ware last fall (cryptolocker -I shudder to repeat the name) I installed the full Kaspersky suite. It may be one of the more bullet-proof security packages extant, but it sure doesn't speed things up - do they have money invested in CPU and RAM chip manufacturers?

We need very powerful batteries that can last months and months without the need of recharging. ...Solar and wind and wave energy.

Plug your guitar, plug your laptop. 🙂

The chemistry is getting there. They have batteries in the lab about 5 times the density of current Li batteries. The problems are in long term stability. The pumped electrolyte is a big future one. At about 3 times current, it will start to change things. There will be a lot of new applications that can cut the cord. It still comes down to energy density of a liquid hydrocarbon being so darn good. Chemical storage beats charge storage every time.

At the same time, we have to help efficiency. The newest LED lamps in the labs are approaching 35% hot-wire efficiency, which is about the limit of our eyes. We need to build 2000 Lb cars again instead of 4000. I guess it would be nice if our speakers were more than 3 or 4 % efficient. We need to not lose 20% of the electricity in the grid, and 15% of our natural gas to leaks. Problem is, those things are hard.
