I haven't been around much, been lurking around still reading lots still, but haven't been keeping up with all the pass projects.
My goal, is to find a simple, Pre-Amp for my aleph mini's simple is key so i can still achieve CLEAN sound, but something louder than the Passive pot im using.
I;m running the Mini smd alephs x 4 in se mode ( rca single ended ) 2 amplifiers per speaker, ( one for tweeter one for mid bass )
I am currently working on new cabinets to house my new Ribbon Tweeters ( thanks Planet10 ) and my davis 6.5" efficient drivers.
I only have one source, my fave cd player.
So, ideas schematics pictures are all welcome. 🙂

If you plug the CD directly into your power amp is it loud enough? If so, a B1 would help.
If not, I defer the question.

If your cd player has enough output you may not even need a B1 (/ buffer). I would simply try a 5K potentiometer first.

Hi,
If you think the B1 is not sufficient, then you might want to take a look at this thread:

It's high on my list of things I want to make soon....
Cheers

Our posts crossed... The preamp in the link I posted has a gain of 2, if I recall correctly.

Would it be possible to reduce the feedback of your Aleph's?
A simple mod if you enjoy your setup.

In the meantime, schematic changed:

I suggested removing the passive pot. It may be loading down the CD output. If its loud enough direct connected, a buffer would help, by allowing a higher value pot without loosing HF response or volume.Right now i'm using a passive pot for the volume, i do need more maybe 1.5 time gain.
Try it and let us know.

I tried that long time ago, It defiantly needs more gain, 🙂

I found one of my NICE op-amp pre-amp's that i used to use, i used to use it because i loved the sound but it didn't have enough gain, its a opa627, i was told i could use a resistor across 2 pins to give it more gain, however i can't remember the value of the resistor NOR what pins 🙁

Attached is schematic for OPA627 with a toggle switch gain setting, by adjusting resistor from -IN to ground, you will change the gain (smaller value, more gain)
Thanks Peter, what should i start off with ? Could i just use a pot ? and remove the one between the signal input ?

consider thinking outside the box and upping the Cd players gain, Oh hold on thats thinking inside the Cd players box!

make it as is .
use even TL072 there for start , to see what suits your needs .
in any case - making that preamp is easier than ask ....... or putting brain in working state ( God forbid !! )

Good thing that was all in english, i asked a simple question and got some stuff that well, giberish i say.
How hard is it to just specify a number, since the product is already running, i don't need or want to change the opamps.
