I have been looking at the Silver Flute range of Woofers - 5 1/4 inch and 6 1/2 inch in shielded and unshielded forms. They say that the drivers have Wool Cone (I don't know what that means). The frequency response curves look too good and excellent power handling among other specs. They are also very cheap.
I am thinking of coupling these with the LPG tweeters (again from Madisound) simply because they are cheap and more so because they seem to exhibit better off axis response (going by the published graphs) than more expensive types.
The woofers will be used in a QWL design published in Practical Electronics magazine a couple of years ago.
Has anyone heard the Silver Flutes and LPGs and what about their sonic qualities?
Thanks,

I found very little information from DIY'ers on the SilverFlute Woofers.
I found only one web site that actually built a speaker system on these woofers.
http://home.new.rr.com/zaph/audio/audio-speaker13.html
I also found very few threads on message boards as well.
One said the bass was very muddy another said it was warm.
Who to believe????
They do spec out very well....
Don't know about the tweeter either...

I have two W20RC3804s at my house right now. I am using one for sub-woofer duty in a sealed enclosure. I will be placing them in a push-push dipolar sealed enclosure soon enough.
These speakers are really as good as they say. Build quality is exceptional for the price and on par with Seas. These speakers are not muddy by any means, they are clear and articulate. Muddyness may occur when the speaker is pushed to its limits, but that's with any other speaker as well.
I don't have very accurate measurements as of now, though, I will in the near future. I have many posts about these woofers on the forum, use the search function you shall see it there.
Also, The W17 and W20 measure about the same, of course the W20 goes lower and the W17 goes higher. The W14s are the ones that seem to disregard the family resemblance and go their own way though, not that far off from the others, the sound is still similar.
