Is the out put signal from a CD ROM drive digitial?

Most modern CDROMS have two audio outputs, a four pin analog and a two pin digital. The digital is S/PDIF encoded but the level is TTL.

As far as I know also the error correction is not as good, but it shouldn't be of much concern if you are not using cd's of very bad condition...

Some audio CD's (an increasing number i suspect) are being produced in a way such that CD-ROM's can not read then so this may cause you hassles.

In theory, yes.


I have a ASUS DVD drive model E608. It has a digital output as well as analog audio output. It does 24X digital ripping at any track but ASUS doesn't list this spec. The CD ROM players in local computer stores (Best Buy, CompUSA, etc.) are a piece of ****. Pioneer, Plextor, and many others that did very good under oscilloscope tests is the ones you should get.
