I was wondering if I should seal the box housing the 1 inch compression driver + horn in a much larger speaker. I understand sealing the midwoofer box is a given, but any benefit in sealing the horn as well? since the CD is already sealed I don't see why I should do it.

Thanks for your reply!
Yes the added rigidity is interesting but I am trying to limit the size of the speaker so I prefer to use extruded braces instead of plain planks which are sealing parts of the cabinet.

Not essential to seal it, but rigidity of the waveguide walls is a good thing. Pressure from the woofer may test that. Movement of the waveguide as a whole if the mounting surface moves is another.
I like to put a 1/2" thick horizontal partition behind the CD and fit it tightly with a thin rubber gasket so the horn/CD assembly is pressed against the edge when installed. I don't know if this actually prevents any resonance but it makes me feel better. Also it puts another bracing on the cabinet wall. I do this with woofers too.
If there is sectioning so that the volume occupied by the waveguide and driver is not making it to woofers then there is no point have the waveguide part enclosed at all, just put it top of the wooer box and enjoy potentially better diffraction performance at the same time. Lot easier to manufacture at least.
