shivas and WINISD PRO

has anyone used the WINISD PRO program to design any vented shiva 12" subs instead, of the Adire recomended sizes? if so, what size enclosures did you come up with using QB3 Quasi-butterworth alignment? and how was performance with music, HT, and SPL? i'm wanting a size that will be acceptable for music, and HT. i just feel their 85L enclosure is too small after, subtracting cu ft volume for plate amp, port, driver, and bracing. i'd build their 142 L enclosure but, can't see buying 2 sheets of mdf board as one, will not be enough with the 5 braces they recomend unless, i could get by using less bracing but then, what might that do to the box tuning? any help and suggestions would be greatly appreaciated! crippledchicken 😕

Yes, they use a 4 inches flared port 12 inches long. If you don't use a flared port, you'll need to make it 17 inches long.

The design is a tight fit on a 4x8 sheet, but it's ok.

Each side panel is 21"x21" so you have 6" left at the top when you cut two (42"x21"), with that you can do the two 21"x5.75" you need for bracing.

Then, you have enough wood left for the 14.75"x8".

With 142.5 liters, the -3 dB point from the peak at 43 Hz of 120 dB (corner loaded in-room response approx) with 250W input is at 17.2 Hz and on the other side of the spectrum the -3 dB point is at 111 Hz.

With 6 liters less (136,5 liters), the -3 dB point from the peak at 44 Hz of 120 dB (corner loaded in-room response approx) with 250W input is at 17.5 Hz and on the other side of the spectrum the -3 dB point is at 111 Hz.

So, as you can see, I don't think you need a separate chamber for your amp...

hi Simon, i see what you mean, adding the plate amp won't change the response much. i've got a good start on the enclosure and the way it looks, i'm going to have to mount the plate amp in one of the side chambers instead of the back but, i guess i could always just spin the sub around where the amp is in the back i wouldn't think it would make any difference, as far as sound goes. don't know how much i can get done tomorrow with one of the grand kids running around he he. reguards, crippledchicken 🙂
